The Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) said it has intensified war against narcotic drugs, warning the dealers to keep their hands off from the illicit trade or face trouble.
Commissioner General of the Antidrug body, Mr. Gerald Kusaya, issued the warning yesterday in Dar es Salaam as he continues to bring new vigor since appointed to the post last month by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
He was speaking at a Forum that brought together journalists from various media houses.
Mr. Kusaya affirmed that the DCEA has tightened the noose to ensure that all perpetrators face the wrath of the law.
"Those who look forward to engaging in narcotic drugs trade should now think twice. Let me just advise them that they should look for another job to do," he said.
According to him, the recent seizure of several kilograms of narcotic drugs was a sign that the DCEA officers now work day and night.
General Kusaya was referring to the arrest of seven Iran nationals, who were allegedly found trafficking in a total of 859,08 kilogrammes of dangerous narcotic drugs.
The suspects were arrested by the DCEA officers in collaboration with members of the Tanzania People's Defence Forces (TPDF).
Already the accused persons have been taken to court to answer two economic charges of trafficking in are 504,36 Kilograms of heroin and Methamphetamine weighing 355 Kilograms on April 23, 2021 in the Indian Ocean in Lindi Region within Tanzania territory waters.
"The time has now come for these people to look for another genuine business. We have well organized ourselves this time around, as we are working day and night to ensure we have a generation which is free from dealing with narcotic drugs. We have been trusted by the president and we will not let her down," he said.
General Kusaya emphasized that all stakeholders, including the media, to cooperate and support the state organs in the war against use of narcotic drugs. He insisted that the media has a central role towards the intended successes.
"Many people make follow-up on issues in the media. If you write more about the effects of illicit trade and use of narcotic drugs in the society you will increase awareness in the community," he said.
According to him, such move would force the community to abandon such illegal business.
He implored the media to set a permanent agenda on the effects of dealing with and using narcotic drug, as they have a great opportunity to save.
